Transmission issues don’t always mean transmission malfunction. Often in-depth diagnosis reveals problems with other components that can make technicians believe the issues are transmission related. In this three-part series, ATSG experts will present case studies from their troubleshooting calls with professional technicians. Offering transmission diagnosis and repair support for shops, the Automatic Transmission Service Group encounters a broad spectrum of issues through its call center.

This series will highlight vehicle-specific problems that can help you troubleshoot issues in your bays, and help you realize some of those transmission issues aren’t faulty transmissions after all.

Part 1 Discussion Topics:

  • 2013 AUDI Q5 3.0L TDI WITH AN 0B5 TRANSMISSION – After repairs, overhaul or transmission exchange, the vehicle developed a U0101 code, indicating the network lost communication with the TCM.
  • 2016 NISSAN ALTIMA WITH AN RE0F10D CVT – After CVT install, the vehicle wouldn’t start.
  • 2016 NISSAN ALTIMA SEDAN L4-2.5L – Altima was brought into the shop for an intermittent stalling/cutting-out problem.
  • 2010 HYUNDAI SANTA FE – Oil leak at the bottom of the engine and transmission.
  • A 2010 GMC SIERRA 2500 – Second gear start was being commanded by the TCM and no codes were present.
  • CADILLAC XTS, ACADIA, ENCLAVE, OUTLOOK & TRAVERSE – Code U0101: indicating the network lost communication with the TCM.
  • 2018 CHEVY CAMARO SS WITH 6.2 LITER ENGINE & 8L90 – Slipping in forward at initial take-off, followed by a “no-move” condition.
